Ladies of Harley, 2008

Mt Evans, 2008

Each year Greeley
H.O.G makes the trek along the highest paved
road in North America to the top of Mt. Evans.
The summit always greets us with spectacular
views of the Colorado Front Range, stretching
from the skyline of Denver and far south, all
the way north to the Wyoming boarder and beyond.
Starting from temps near the 90s at Wildwest
Motorsports, the rarefied Rocky Mountain air
dips into the low 40s at roads end.
Glimpses of Rocky Mountain sheep and soaring
raptors among some of the most beautiful country
you'll ever see are among the perks one reaps on
this annual day excursion. Didn't make it
this year? Don't miss the 2009 iteration!
My First
Solo Adventure!
By Linda
Vogel
I
have made the nearly 1,200 mile trip to Illinois
to see my family many times since I moved to
Colorado five years ago, but it was always a
matter of just putting the miles behind me and
getting there. This time, on my 2003 HD Ultra
Glide Classic trike (named “Leo” after my
good-hearted and adventurous grandfather), I
savored every mile, as well as every smell and
view. This was my first solo long distance trip
since I got the trike almost a year ago and I
was looking forward to my “adventure” for
several months. My brother-in-law thought I
would get a 100 miles from home and chicken out,
go back, and get my car, but he had to eat his
words when I made the trip in two days—riding
more miles than he has in five years on his low
rider!
Some people seem
shocked that I would take such a trip by
myself but, when I ride alone, I can set my own
pace, stop or slow down to enjoy things along
the way, without having to ask anyone else’s
okay. The weather was great—a little windy in
Nebraska but isn’t it always windy in Nebraska?
I loved taking the back roads, especially
through Missouri. An hour detour in Missouri
ended up being a beautiful, scenic excursion
instead of an inconvenience. It was nice to be
able to ride the country side around where I
grew up in Illinois, too, although I never did
make it to Starved Rock (next year!). The trip
back was little more challenging because of the
weather, with 92 degrees the first day and down
to the 60’s the second. Either I avoided the
storms the second day or they avoided me,
although there always seemed to be an ominous
bunch of clouds off to the south.
I just love to
ride so there weren’t really any low points,
except when a passing car threw up a rock on a
gravel road under construction just inside of
Colorado. I was really glad I had stopped to put
my helmet on at my last gas stop. It seems as if
people are friendly to you when you are on a
bike and I had people at every stop talking to
me about my trike. It is beautiful, as any
Harley is, but a lot of people haven’t seen a HD
trike and want to talk about it. I also didn’t
meet any single tall, dark, and handsome on the
way—but there is always the next trip! I will
have put on 7,500 (mostly solo) miles on my
trike in this first year and am planning where I
want to go next year. My dream is to ride the
perimeter of the United States and, if I save up
enough money, I should be able to do that in a
few years. It would be nice to have a riding
partner for that but, if not, I know I’ll meet a
lot of nice people along the way—and maybe that
tall, dark, and handsome!

Colorado State Rally
PHOTOS

Well, the 2008 state
rally is over. What a great time we had!
There were games, parades and a bike show with
entries that represented HOG members and
chapters from all over the United States.
There were folks from as far away as Florida,
and more from a little closer to home like
Kansas and Nebraska; there to share in three
days of all things HOG.
The Greeley
chapter was honored to have our very own Dana
and Rebecca take top slot in both the Big
Twin and The People's Choice
categories of the bike show [pictured above].
Congratulations you guys! That's one sweet
scooter you got there, bro. And, now you
got proof!
Much gratitude to
the chapter officers and all the volunteers who
helped with barricades, games and so much
more. Special thanks to Ron, Kate and Ken
who really stepped up to the plate to make this
year another incredibly memorable notch in the
history of Greeley HOG 1462, and to our local
dealer who fed us, and presented a distinctly
Greeley welcome to a whole bunch of bikers who
came to immerse themselves in our annual party!
Wildwest
Motorsports, you guys ROCK!
I'm already
looking forward to next year!

Summer Heat Ride - Peak
to Peak, June 29, 2008
PHOTOS

Leaving the
dealer at about 9:30-ish AM, we headed for Estes
Park, Colorado to point southward over hwy 7,
AKA "Peak to Peak." Stopping just outside
Nederland for a bite at the Millsite, we gorged
on some outstanding Italian chow before heading
down Boulder canyon for the trek back home.
Trailing about a dozen bikes or so, this was yet
another perfect ride with the HOG1462 club.
Bravo, Road Captains!

Perfect weather,
great ride, outstanding company and some of the
best BBQ around! Located in Brighton,
Colorado on hwy 7, just off of I25.
Overnight Ride to
Scottsbluff, Nebraska - May 17 - 18, 2008
Photos

With a total of 30 bikes and
about 40 riders, this year's overnighter to
Scottsbluff, NE was among the largest groups
we've had, and certainly the largest for this
event! Great riding weather punctuated
what was a stellar weekend spent with great
friends and a great meal at the Whiskey Creek
restaurant who has always been a gracious host
to our band of bikers! While there were a
couple of groups for the departure and return,
our particular string of Harleys logged over 430
miles on what was a "pert-near-perfect" ride!

Full Moon
Ride to Pizza Plus in Ault, Colorado.
Great ride! I think that was the most
folks we've seen on the full moon ride in quite
some time! The 'bolis were superb and the
company outstanding!

Pepper
Pod, April

Our April
dinner ride saw us to The Pepper Pod in Hudson,
Colorado. We had about 16 bikes with a lot
of folks riding two up for about 27 riders.
We were rewarded with HUGE portions and
outstanding service. Definitely a place
we'll have to aim at again ... perhaps on a day
with a bit less wind and fewer tumble weeds
chasing after us! :)

Palomino's,
January 19, 2008
PHOTOS

About 30 or so H.O.G folks
popped out to share a meal and adult beverages
for the January dinner "ride" to Palomino's in
Greeley, Colorado. Still a bit too brisk
for most Hogsters to actually RIDE to the
restaurant [although I think we had one or two
commandos arrive on two wheels], but we had fun
fellowship and made a nice addition to our
quiver of bragging rites nonetheless. Our
humble director passed out the 2008 iteration of
the polar bear pins to qualifying attendees, and
our historian/photographer got this year's
pocket schedule distributed ... see what you
miss when you don't join us? :)
January

Fifty plus Greeley H.O.Gs met
at the Village Inn on 10th Street in Greeley for
the 2008, annual Polar Bear Ride. Most of
us drove. But one hardy soul braved the
icy streets to enjoy the jaunt to the restaurant
on his Harley! Here's a shot we took in
the parking lot befor heading home to warmer
comfort.
Way to go Steve!
You da MAN!

November 18, 2007
Our Sunday ride took us to
the Budweiser Brewery in Fort Collins. [Top

November
11, 2007
We started out at the dealer about 10AM, then up
392 north to Briggsdale where we paused at Crow
Valley Recreational Area, then headed up to The
Antelope Cafe in Wyoming for a burger. We then
headed home towards Greeley with another pause
at the A&W in Eaton for root beer floats. Great
ride, y'all!! We logged 150 miles round trip.
See you next time! :)

October
26, 2007
Our October, '07 full moon ride was to
Kersey Pizza on hwy 34, east of Greeley.
I've never had anything there that wasn't just addictingly
good, but I've grown partial to their stromboli
in particular.
It
was a chili ride in case you couldn't
tell. We were bundled tight and stuck to
34 all the way to Kersey. We headed south
from Kersey Pizza for about two miles on 1st St.
to a small church parking lot where this image
was taken. The moon was obscured by
clouds, so I edited this one in. The goose
bumps on the riders were real!
